Microsoft pushes KB5124010 preview update for Windows 11 24H2/25H2 with 46 tweaks
Microsoft has made the KB5124010 update available as a September 2026 preview for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, bundling 46 individual changes and fixes aimed at polishing the latest builds ahead of the next full release.
The package is labeled a non‑security preview, meaning it is intended primarily for testing and feedback rather than urgent protection. Users who have opted into the Windows Insider or regular update channels will see the update appear in Settings > Windows Update, where they can install it alongside other optional patches.
Among the most visible enhancements is a set of Bluetooth improvements. The update refines device discovery, stabilises connections with peripheral hardware and introduces more aggressive power‑saving profiles, which should extend battery life on laptops and tablets that rely on wireless accessories.
Another headline feature is the ability to remap the newly introduced Copilot key. Previously locked to launching the AI‑assisted assistant, the key can now be reassigned to launch custom shortcuts, third‑party applications, or other system functions, giving power users greater flexibility in tailoring their workflow.
The remaining changes address a range of lingering bugs. Early reports indicate fixes for occasional file‑explorer freezes, printer‑spooler errors, and display scaling glitches on high‑DPI monitors. Minor UI tweaks—such as updated context‑menu wording and refined animation timing—also make the experience feel more polished.
Microsoft encourages users who install the preview to report any regressions through the Feedback Hub, allowing engineers to prioritize issues before the final 24H2 and 25H2 service packs roll out later in the year. The KB5124010 update underscores the company’s iterative approach to Windows 11, where incremental, community‑tested improvements are delivered continuously rather than waiting for large, monolithic releases.
